Woodlands Stud Weanlings Set for Sale
19 May 2026
The 2026 National Online Weanling Sale is set to take place on Wednesday 20 May on standardbred.gavelhouse.com, with bidding closing from 6pm (NZT).
With 22 weanlings set for sale in the 2026 online edition, Woodlands Stud’s Sales Manager Cameron Grant is encouraged by the flurry of early bids, with majority of their weanlings already on the market.
“With the bidding being run over a weeklong period, I expected buyers to sit back and wait until Wednesday night, but bidding has been strong since it opened and they are getting into it nice and early.”
“There’s a lot of Australian interest, which is great considering they aren’t able to be here, but there has been a lot of work done by agents and trainers on their behalf.”
Woodlands’ resident stallions feature predominantly throughout the catalogue, while the final offerings of Champion trotter What The Hill will be up for grabs.
“We’ve got more fillies than colts for this Sale, but that’s just how it went that year.”
“We’ve got some by our young sire in Lather Up and then Bettors Delight, Downbytheseaside and Sweet Lou who have been selling well at the National Yearling Sales.
“For the trotters we’ve got the last of the What The Hill’s coming through, which are now all on the market, and a couple by King of the North.
“19 out of 22 are on the market already. Something we’re always keen on [meeting the market] and getting our product out there, it works well for the farm and the results we get.
“There’s good variety in our draft, and as expected I’m sure a good horse or two will come out of this draft.”
The catalogue for the 2026 National Weanling Sale is now online on standardbred.gavelhouse.com, with bidding closing from 6pm on Wednesday 20 May.
From a small offering, graduates of the National Weanling Sale have claimed six Group Ones and 34 individual stakes races in just five seasons, headlined by Group One-winning graduates such as Debbie Lincoln (NZ) (Lather Up), Ya Rite Darl (NZ) (What The Hill), Fugitive (NZ) (Downbytheseaside), Aardiebytheseaside (NZ) (Downbytheseaside) and Christopher Dance (NZ) (Sweet Lou), all in which have been sold by Woodlands Stud.
All weanlings purchased are eligible to be entered for NZB Standardbred’s lucrative Harness Million Sales Race Series. The Series consists of principal two-year-old and three-year-old races for colts and geldings, fillies and trotters individually, where NZB Standardbred graduates can contest for their share in a one million dollar prizepool.
