Rock Lobster On Song In Uncut Gems

Rock Lobster (NZ) (Majestic Son) scored a popular win in front of her army of owners when she took out the Listed Commodore Hotel ‘Uncut Gems’ Aged Classic (2600m) at Addington Raceway last Friday for trainers Robert and Jenna Dunn.

While euphoric following the race, they had their hearts in their mouths shortly after the start when their mare broke for a few strides, but driver Riley Harrison quickly got her back into her gait.

He’s My Creation (NZ) (Creatine) set a solid tempo upfront, stringing out the field, with Rock Lobster hopping on the back of Nellie Doyle (NZ) (Majestic Son), who she stalked for most of the journey,

Rock Lobster followed the Tim Trathen-trained mare into the running line down the back straight and quickly found herself in the one-one after stablemate One Over Da Line found the top.

Driver John Dunn got busy on One Over Da Line (NZ) (Majestic Son) from the 300m mark and opened up a couple of lengths on his rivals. Harrison kept her cool and didn’t ask Rock Lobster to improve until just before the turn, and she timed her run perfectly, with Rock Lobster storming home out wide to win by 1-¼ lengths.

“The one I was following (Nellie Doyle) was stopping a wee bit but if I went too early she may not have had that finish at the line, so I tried to time it as late as I could,” Harrison said.

“It was awesome to have all the owners here and it was a big enough race that the horse deserved.”

Bred by Bev Williamson, Rock Lobster is by Majestic Son and out of unraced CR Commando mare Kenny’s Command, a half-sister to Group One performer Queen Kenny (NZ) (Monarchy) the dam of Group One winner Queen Elida (NZ) (Love You).

Williamson offered Rock Lobster through the 2022 NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale under her Ardgowan Lodge banner where she was purchased by Diamond Racing for $24,000.

Raced by several syndicates, Rock Lobster has now won nine of her 34 starts and has earned more than $122,000 in prizemoney.
