Unbeaten Chiggsy Claims Group Three Kindergarten Stakes

Chiggsy (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) proved too strong for his rivals when winning the Group Three Macca Lodge Kindergarten Stakes (1609m).

The Hayden and Amanda Cullen-trained juvenile was sent forward from his wide gate, but he was beaten for early speed inside and driver Blair Orange eased his charge back to take an early sit in the one-one.

The speed was on throughout, with Fanfare (NZ) (King Of Swing) pushing forward to assume the lead, leaving Chiggsy parked, but Orange was intent on getting to the front and he did just that with 800m to go.

While Chiggsy did plenty of work to find the front, the son of Bettor’s Delight was still full of running at the turn, and he kicked clear of his rivals and held off the late challenge of Captain Wolf (NZ) (Captain Crunch) to win by half a length.

“He had to be good to win I thought, after doing all the work,” Hayden Cullen told Southern Harness Racing.

“He’s a funny fella and doesn’t really show you that at home, but in his two race day starts he’s really stepped up.”

Bred by Woodlands Stud, Chiggsy its out of prolific producer Grace Way, who is also the dam of Group One performer Three Ways (NZ) (Mach Three) and Group Two performers Make Way (NZ) (Mach Three), Forgotten Highway (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight), and Monaco Grace (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight).

Chiggsy was offered through Woodlands Stud’s 2025 NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale draft at Karaka where he was purchased for $37,500 and has now won both of his starts to date and has earned more than $36,000 in prizemoney.
