Starpower Surges Chase A Dream (NZ) to Sires Stakes Double

Chase a Dream (NZ) bolts to Group One glory at Addington.

Chase A Dream (NZ) (Captaintreacherous) ran to an epic Group One double when brilliantly winning the $147,00 Group One Garrads Sires Stakes Three-Year-Old Colts & Geldings Final (1980m) at Addington on Friday night.

Inch by inch the NZB Standardbred graduate willed himself to an outstanding top level victory by the barest of margins for trainers Mark and Nathan Purdon and driver Natalie Rasmussen.

Chase A Dream was offered at the 2022 National Yearling Sale among the Studholme Bloodstock draft.

A positive drive from Rasmussen saw Chase A Dream parked early before she slotted the pacer into a sweet spot in the one-one.

Rasmussen launched her charge for his winning run before the home turn and on a sizzling 26.7sec final 400m split, Chase A Dream had work to do to chase down the leader Hadron Collidor (NZ) (Sweet Lou).

With determination, the pacer wore down the leader We Walk By Faith (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) to score a his second Group One win.

Rasmussen was full of praise for the tenacity Chase A Dream showed in his big victory.

Chase A Dream’s victory sealed an epic double for the pacer, who also took out the Group One Sires Stakes Two-Year-Old Colts & Geldings Final (1980m) at Addington late last year.

With his big win in the $200,000 Listed Harness Million Three-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Final (2200m) at Alexandra Park and his second placing behind fellow NZB Standardbred graduate Cold Chisel (NZ) (Always B Miki) in the $203,000 Group One Woodlands Northern Derby (2700m), Chase A Dream is New Zealand’s leading three-year-old pacer both on money banked and on his achievements.

The Group One Sires Stakes Three-Year-Old Colts & Geldings Final was completely dominated by NZB Standardbred graduates.

Graduates filled six of the first seven placings and made up seven of the nine runners in the Group One field.

Cold Chisel continued his fine season with his close up third, with Vessem (NZ) (Vincent) fourth.

Harrison John (NZ) (Always B Miki), Hadron Collidor (NZ) (Sweet Lou), Dreams Are Free (NZ) (Captaintreacherous) and Kashkeeper (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) were the next NZB Standardbred graduates across the line.

Two youngsters by Chase The Dream’s sire Captaintreacherous (USA) will be offered at the National Weanling Sale at Auckland on May 23.

Lot 31 is a colt from the Group One placegetter Juice Brogden (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight), to be offered by Brogden Lodge.

Breckon Farms will offer Lot 108, a yearling colt from Spandu Ballet (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight), who is from the star-studded family of champion pacer King Of Swing (NZ) (Rocknroll Hanover).
