Republican Party Continues Golden Run

Republican Party (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) continued his golden run of form for trainers Cran and Chrissie Dalgety at Addington Raceway last Friday when taking out the Group Three Summer Cup Free-For-All (1980m).

From his outside draw in the seven horse field, Republican Party was taken back to settle at the rear of the field by driver Carter Dalgety, where the Canterbury reinsman was happy to bide his time before hopping on the back of an improving Alta Meteor (NZ)(Art Major) four-wide around the final bend.

Republican Party was able to show his class once again when running over the top of his rivals to score a comfortable 1-¼ length victory.

“It was never going to be easy, the whole race mapped against us, but he is amazing and just gets it done when he probably shouldn’t,” Carter Dalgety said.

“I thought about moving (from the back) but we were going at a pretty solid clip and it probably would have just turned ugly. He might have looked a bit flat off the back, and he was, we were just going that quick and we were so wide, but as soon as I pull him off a helmet he just finds another gear.”

Friday’s win continues an outstanding year for Republican Party, who has won six of his last nine starts, and Dalgety is hoping he can continue that sequence next week in Southland, where he will attempt to defend his crown in the Group One Invercargill Cup (2700m). 

“He seems to love the summer, this is his time of year,” Dalgety said. “We have a big one next week with the Invercargill Cup so we probably couldn’t be going into it better.”

Bred by Katrina and John Price, Republican Party is out of Group One-winning mare Democrat Party, a daughter of Group One performer Champagne Party, and the dam of Group One performer Advance Party.

Republican Party was offered through Price Bloodstock’s 2020 NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale draft at Christchurch where he was purchased by Cran Dalgety for $210,000.

The six-year-old has now won 25 of his 62 starts to date, including four at Group One level, and has amassed more than $1 million in prizemoney.
