There were only a few nervous moments as Paramount Kiwi (NZ) (Father Patrick) banked his second Harness Million title with his stellar win in $75,000 Listed NZB Standardbred Harness Million Three-Year-Old Trot (2200m).
Once the NZB Standardbred saw clear air at Alexandra Park on Friday night, the brilliant three-year-old prevailed in a stirring home straight battle with runner-up Princess Sadie (NZ) (Muscle Mass).
Paramount Kiwi and trainer-driver Matthew White were held up on the home turn, but both held their composure before running to victory.
White was full of praise for his classy trotter following his second lucrative Harness Million win.
“It got a bit tight at the top of the straight but he held his gait and his nerve,” White told Track Chat NZ.
“He balanced up well and hit the line.”
“He’s a lovely obliging horse.”
White purchased Paramount Kiwi for $40,000 from the Studholme Bloodstock draft at the 2022 National Yearling Sales at Christchurch.
$119,000 in stakes from just six starts.
The trotter has only been beaten in one of his six starts when running a brilliant third when taking on older horses fresh up this season.
Paramount Kiwi will be out to keep his unbeaten record against his age group intact in next month’s Group Two Sires Stakes Three-Year-Old Trotters Championship (2200m).
And the brilliant squaregaiter will get the chance to continue to live up to the big opinion White has had of him since his purchase as a yearling.
“I always thought he’d be a nice horse from the get-go.”
“His attitude, manners, and temperament are great and he’s always with you.
“He’s good for me and makes me look good.”
Princess Sadie was game in defeat, fighting on strongly to add another black-type placing to her outstanding record for trainer-driver Matthew Williamson.
The classy filly is set to start favourite for the Group Three Northern Trotting Oaks (2200m) at Alexandra Park this week.
Bounce N Beyond (NZ) (Majestic Son) worked hard in the middle stages of the Harness Million Three-Year-Old Trot before rallying well to run a meritorious third placing.
The trotter was purchased by Diamond Racing for $60,000 when he was offered among the Breckon Farms draft at the 2022 National Yearling Sales at Karaka.
