Cyclone Jordy Wreaking Havoc In WA
22 September 2025
Cyclone Jordy (NZ) (Art Major) is proving to be an unstoppable force in Western Australia, recording his 10th consecutive victory at Bunbury last Saturday to remain unbeaten across the Tasman.
The three-year-old son of Art Major was first-up when contesting the Listed Five Twenty Equine Breeding 3YO Battle Of Bunbury (2100m), for which he was backed into a dominant $1.18 favourite, and won accordingly.
Driver Gary Hall Jnr found the coveted one-one position early before Captain Stirling improved to sit parked. Not content with his position, Hall asked his charge to improve three-wide and found the lead at the top of the straight with a lap to go.
Turning for home he quickly opened up on his rivals and dashed away to a 4.7m victory over fellow Kiwi-bred Lincoln Lou (NZ) (Sweet Lou).
Cyclone Jordy is out of Group One performer Cyclone Kate, who won 21 races, including the Group Two Sibelia Stakes (1609m), Group Two Carnival Stakes (1609m), Group Three Frith Stakes (1609m), Group Three Adore Me Stakes (1609m), Group Three Teeny Teeny Stakes (1609m), and Group Three Australasian Breeders’ Crown Mares FFA (1650m). She also placed at elite-level on two occasions, including the Group One Australasian Breeders’ Crown 2YO Fillies Final (2240m) and Gr.1 Queen Of The Pacific (2760m).
Cyclone Kate has had six live foals to date, and is currently in-foal to Champion sire Bettor’s Delight, and is proving just as effective as a broodmare.
From four progeny of racing age, she has left multiple Group Three performer Cyclone Charlotte (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight), two-win mare Cyclone Bella (NZ) (Art Major), Cyclone Jordy, and two-year-old Cyclone Rebel (NZ) (Betttor’s Delight), who has already qualified for trainer Tate Hopkins.
Cyclone Jordy was offered through Hollis & Robertson Equine Services’ 2023 NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale draft at Karaka where he was purchased by Frank Cooney for $70,000.
He had five starts in New Zealand for trainer Tate Hopkins for three wins, including the Group One Young Guns Cardigan Bay Stakes (1700m) in the hands of David Butcher, before being sold to clients of leading Australian trainer Gary Hall Snr.
He has added a further 10 wins to his record in Australia, including the Group One Golden Slipper (2130m) and Group Three Caduceus Classic (2130m).
