Breckon Farms Offer Quartet Of Quality Weanling Fillies

16 May 2026

Lot 2

Waikato Standardbred nursery Breckon Farms is offering four well-bred fillies through their NZB Standardbred Online Weanling Sale draft, with all four presenting as potential pinhooking opportunities.

While the yearling sales are the farm’s key target, farm manager Nigel Fahey said they have had an influx of fillies born on the farm and have identified four fillies to offer to prospective buyers as weanlings.

“In the last few years we have had an abundance of fillies born on the farm and we can’t take them all through to the yearling sales, so we have identified four to offer at the weanling sale,” Fahey said.

The first cab off the rank will be Lot 2, an Art Major filly out of Our Gilda, a Mach Three half-sister to Group One performer The Bucket List.

“She (Our Gilda) is a young mare that has only had a couple of foals and her oldest is only a two-year-old,” Fahey said. “She is one we think has a bit of potential as a new bloodline for the farm.

“This filly has good size and strength.”

Fahey has plenty of time for Lot 20, a Lazarus filly out of Western Willow, a daughter of seven-time Group One winner One Dream.

Western Willow is starting to leave her mark as a broodmare, being the dam of promising fillies Little Lily and Little Hoofananny.

“This is a filly I have always liked since she was a foal,” Fahey said. “She had a bit of presence about her in the paddock and she is a nice type of filly that is well grown and is a strong horse.”

Alta Flamenco has been a recent addition to Breckon Farms’ broodmare band and the farm is offering her weanling daughter by Pebble Beach as Lot 26 at the weanling sale.

Alta Flamenco, a half-sister to Group One performer Alta Maestro and Group Two performer Alta Jerome, has already left several black-type performers, and Fahey said her weanling filly has good size.

“We bought this mare off Alabar last year,” Fahey said. “It is a nice family that has got plenty of black-type.

“She is quite a big, scopey filly for a Pebble Beach, he is not one of the biggest sires around, and she has thrown a bit of size into this foal.”

The farm’s final offering, Lot 34, holds plenty of sentimental value to the farm, being by farm graduate King Of Swing.

“King Of Swing is dear to the heart of Breckon Farms, being born and raised here and sold through the yearling sales,” Fahey said.

“We bred this mare to King Of Swing for this particular cross, being a 3x3 to Artsplace and 4x4 to Western Hanover. It is doubling up of two great lines.”
